“We were able to calm the fears of a New Hampshire mother whose 18-year-old daughter had been accepted to school in the area”, said Jackie Grossmann, our Homesharing Coordinator. The mother worried that, “We don’t know anyone in Chicago. My daughter has never lived in a big city and she won’t have a car to get to school. This is my daughter’s dream. How can we be sure that she will be safe and able even to get to school?”
Through the Homesharing Program this young renter was welcomed into the home of a Skokie woman five blocks from the Violin school she is attending. This is the kind of match that we call a “win-win” – the homeowner benefits from the companionship, now that her own children are grown. She also benefits from the additional income of $500 a month to pay for house taxes. The young renter is in a well-maintained home within walking distance of school and her mom is breathing a sigh of relief!
We are so excited to watch this relationship bloom and we are honored to be able to create connections in the community that might not otherwise happen.
