A key problem the commission majority had with the project may not be easy to fix. Officials on that body said the three components aren’t part of a true “mixed use,” and comprise, instead, in the words of Commissioner Steve Elisco, “a campus of exclusivity.”
Elisco maintains there’s no synergy between the components, saying that the apartment-dwellers wouldn’t need the health club, since they’d have their own fitness room inside their luxury building. And since the apartments would be all one- and two-bedroom units, there would be few children to go to the day care.
